Coming to a Wilderness Near You!

Canoe SceneOk....so maybe that's not entirely accurate. Maybe it should say...Getting to a Wilderness Near You!

The fact is, getting a Canoe Country adventure into the schedule has become pretty easy in the last several years. Yes, there are still "Prime Times" that fill up as in the past (and probably for the foreseeable future) but the once elusive permits of, say, the mid-90's... are a lot easier to come by these days.

There are reasons for this. The biggest of reasons, in my opinion, might be today's culture. That is to say, there are so many different influences affecting folks today, that wilderness adventure travel is just one choice of many for people to choose from. Hectic schedules certainly limit the frequency of doing specific things. Kids today are involved in so many things that it's hard to figure out when they sleep. Life is in constant flux, whether it's socially, in school or in the work place. Getting the family or friends all on the same page has become one of the biggest challenges to taking that wilderness adventure. This has caused the demand for permits to level off in the last several years.

Canoe Scene 2Some things regarding canoe trips have become costly but what hasn't? Wilderness canoe trips are still a great value in the grand scheme of things.  I think the experience and memories made are priceless, anyway! For many of our guest, current and past, reaching the Canoe Country is a moderate to easy day of travel.

We receive many inquiries this time of the year asking if there are any openings left. There was a time when, if you didn't reserve your Quetico Park permit before the 1st of February, you weren't getting one unless someone else cancelled. Boundary Waters permits were often just as tough to get. The fact is, there are still LOTS of openings. If you combine that with just a little flexibility in one's schedule, it's hard not to find openings.

The bottom line here is that there's plenty of opportunities to get a wilderness canoe trip in this year. We can check dates for you and we would be glad to help make it happen. Just give us a call!
