Notes on a Great BWCA Wilderness Season
Greetings to all of BWCA Friends and especially our 2022 season guests.
Northwoods Winter Preparation
We have pulled the last towboat out of the water, hid Kevlar boats away where the snow cannot crush them, and drained and winterized all of our buildings. This time of year, it is all about prepping for the long hard Northwoods winter. Mother Nature gives no passes to the unprepared.
So, we have things in good order and finally find ourselves in the position of reflecting on this past season. With COVID in the rearview mirror, this summer we saw lots of folks that were excited to return to the magical setting of the Boundary Waters. We were busy trying to keep up with the demand for bunk beds, pancakes, steaks, and tows.
Sincere Thank you To Our Guests
We had a small crew, but they worked hard, and we somehow made it to the end of September. We collectively breathed a sigh of relief as we watched the last car pull out of our parking lot. We want to express our sincerest thanks to each of you that were a part of the fun we had this season. We know you had many options for your vacations, and we are grateful to you for choosing Williams and Hall to help you with your canoe trip.
A special thanks goes out to all of the former Canadian Border guests that joined us. We hope we lived up to your expectations.
New Quetico Border Rules and App
Finally, in July of this summer, the Quetico Park reopened for US visitors. Then, in September, the announcement was made that vaccinations would no longer be a requirement for entry into Canada, including Quetico Park. This, of course, is huge in our world, and indeed a highly anticipated event.
There is a new Remote Area Border Crossing (RABC) submission process that is not without its issues. But we look forward to all the bugs being resolved over the next few months. We will be posting a much more in-depth description of the new process in the next few weeks. Bottom line is that we think when the dust settles, the new submission process will be much simpler than the previous RABC process.
Time For 2023 Reservations
We are looking forward to 2023 with a renewed optimism that with both the BWCAW and Quetico Park being open, we will be able to help many of you take the exact trip you are looking for. Groups are already getting their reservations for permits and lodging made for next summer. We are going to take a little time off and then jump into the 2023 season with both feet. But we will always take your phone calls!
