Fabled Basswood Lake

With over 330 miles of shore line, Basswood Lake is enormous and straddles the border between Canada and the United States. The southern half of the lake is in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness near Ely, Minnesota, and the northern half of the lake is in Quetico Provincial Park.

Know where the border is because fishing rules differ between the BWCA and Quetico. And, importantly, know the Basswood Lake motor restrictions. Most of the U.S. side of Basswood Lake allows motorized boats, while motorized watercraft are not allowed on the Canadian side.

Williams and Hall Outfitters is located on Moose Lake, giving our customers the best access to Basswood Lake. From our dock we can take in our motorized towboats all the way to your campsite to start your Basswood Lake fishing canoe trip. And we can pick you up at the end of your time on Basswood.

We also can take you via our towboats to almost any portage or drop-off point on the U.S. side of Basswood Lake to give you a great jump start on your wilderness canoe trip into Quetico Provincial Park and the Boundary Waters.
